Promoted by the Lisbon City Council, the President, Carlos Moedas, laid a wreath in honor of the two soldiers killed on November 25, 1975, Lieutenant José Coimbra and Furriel Joaquim Pires. Another crown was also deposited by the Belém Parish Council.
Lisbon City Council President Carlos Moedas stated: “Here we are the moderates. We need to remember this date, the exact place where these deaths occurred – and which many know nothing about – because November 25th helped to consolidate April 25th. And it helped people of my generation – I’m 53 years old – to be here today as they are. In freedom”.
During the ceremony, a member of the public put up a poster stating Povo MFA/MFA Povo and one of the attendees at the ceremony tore up the pamphlet. The event took place before Carlos Moedas arrived on the scene and therefore he did not comment on the situation.
The ceremonies will take place at the beginning of the afternoon in the Noble Hall of the town hall.
In the afternoon, the Conference on Democracy and Freedom will be held in Palácio Galveias: Fulfilling April in November, with the participation of Álvaro Beleza (President of SEDES) José Miguel Júdice (political analyst) Palácio Galveias – Municipal Library
