The president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, said on Saturday that he wants to increase the guaranteed minimum income of pensioners to 820 euros by 2028, to ensure that his party will not cut “a cent of any pension”.
“We will, in accordance with the law, increase pensions in general, but we will also, gradually and until the end of the legislature, set the reference for the solidarity allowance for the elderly at 820 euros. This translates into the following: In 2028, the guaranteed minimum income for Portuguese pensioners will be 820 euros,” he argued.
Luís Montenegro spoke during the closing of the 41st PSD Congress, which takes place today in Almada (Setúbal district), in an intervention in which he emphasized that the Social Democrats want to increase “the lowest pensions” and have left a guarantee.
“Our goal is clear: we will not cut a cent on any pension,” he assured.
Montenegro guaranteed that “this target is achievable” and “does not endanger the balance of public accounts”.
“And for the future, I see how I can alternate these, so that in a subsequent legislature the guaranteed minimum income of a pensioner can be equal to the updated national minimum wage. It is an objective that must be achieved in two legislatures,” he said.
