The president of the Lisbon City Council expressed his belief on Saturday that the PSD will win the parliamentary elections on March 10, stating that socialism has won in the capital and that it will do so at the national level.
“We will defeat socialism in Lisbon, we will defeat socialism in the country,” Carlos Moedas declared in his speech to the 41st PSD Congress, which takes place today in Almada, Setúbal district.
Earlier, speaking to journalists upon arrival at the main meeting, the Social Democratic leader said that “there is no doubt that the PSD will win these elections and that Luís Montenegro will be the next Prime Minister of Portugal.”
The mayor of Lisbon pointed out that the Portuguese “suffer from a disease called socialism” and believed that “the PSD is the key” and “the solution” for the country.
Carlos Moedas believed that the “PS is the great promoter of extremists, from the extreme left to the extreme right.”
“I can talk about freedom because I would never form an alliance with the extreme left or extreme right. They cannot say the same thing,” he stressed.
In an intervention in which he left several criticisms of the socialists, the mayor stated that “the PS does not want equality of opportunities, but equality in poverty”.
“We are the party of hope. We will be the moderate activists who defeat the radicals,” he emphasized.
At the end of his speech, Carlos Moedas received a standing ovation from the congress and the party chairman joined him on stage.
