Raimundo says regulating “lobbying” legalizes crime

“It’s remarkable that in light of these deals that are now coming to the fore, in light of the promiscuity, in light of influence peddling, in light of all this, what we want to do today is simply legalize and all these crimes that are at the top of the table,” said Paulo Raimundo.

During an intervention during a lunch in Faro, where some 300 people gathered, the leader of the communists emphasized that those “who fill their mouths and chests” with words to fight corruption, what they want to do “is to legalize every one of the crimes that are out there.”

“This is what they want with the so-called ‘lobby scheme’, this is what the PS wants with its project, the PSD with its project, Chega with its project and the Liberal Initiative with its project,” he continued, promising to fight against these proposals .

‘Lobbying’, which consists of activating interest representation mechanisms with the aim of influencing public and political decisions, is an activity that several parties, with the exception of the PCP and Bloco de Esquerda, have already announced that they will try to regulate in the future. next legislature.

In Portugal, ‘lobbying’ was already almost regulated, but Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa vetoed this diploma in 2019 and in 2021 the attempt to regulate the activity was interrupted again by the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic.

“They may be very loud, they may shout a lot, they may shout, but justice and struggle, justice and the fair fight against corruption are on our side, it is on the side of the people, it is on the side of the workers and we will not allow this to happen. legalize crime,” emphasized Paulo Raimundo.

According to the Secretary General of the PCP, the situation that has reached the country is to blame for the PS, the PSD, the CDS, the Liberal Initiative and Chega, who are “devoted up to their necks” to the guidelines and practices that make Portugal brought to the current situation.

“And it is extraordinary that not a word is heard, not a single word, from this group of parties and forces, about what is the main focus of corruption in our country, namely privatizations. Not a word about the negotiations and the corruption directly associated with privatizations. It is absolute silence and we understand why,” he stressed.

For Paulo Raimundo, this silence is due to the fact that PS, PSD, Chega, Liberal Initiative and CDS are “all committed”, “all accomplices” and promoters “of this authentic economic, financial and political crime that was and is privatizations . “, and therefore “they say nothing”.
