Seven national and district political commissioners of the PAN announced their resignation this Wednesday because they disagreed with the party’s current political strategy in terms of government-wide alliances.
The dismissals are also meant to protest “the persecution of critics and the stifling of internal democracy” which they attribute to the leadership of Inês de Sousa Real, according to a statement they released.
These are the members of the National Political Commission Alexandra Miguel, Fernando Rodrigues and Maria João Sacadura e Serrano, the commissioners of the Setúbal district Ana Mendes, Vítor Pinto and Ricardo Reis, and the commissioner of the Lisbon district Rui Prudêncio.
The resignations criticized what they said was the PAN’s intention to replicate in the Assembly of the Republic, in the elections on March 10, 2024, the kind of parliamentary agreement reached with Miguel Albuquerque’s PSD-Madeira.
They viewed the support in Madeira as “a blatant deception for voters” who relied on the expectation of change led by the People-Animals-Nature (PAN) party.
“Miguel Albuquerque represents everything that politics and Madeira do not need: opacity, deceit, lack of respect for ecological limits and social injustice”they declared.
That’s what they said too “The national leadership intends to repeat in the Assembly of the Republic, whoever it may be, the same kind of shameful agreement concluded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira”.
The resignation sharply criticized Inês Sousa Real, as the PAN will never be the environmentalist party that Portugal needs under its leadership.
“Sousa Real turned the PAN into a farce, a case of political prostitution, a national joke, a party bought by the Miguéis Albuquerques of the system, who no longer bothers anything or anyone… and when she stops bothering, she it makes no sense to politics and society. the society”they declared.
Lusa contacted the leader of the PAN, who on Thursday sent the verification to the table of the National Commission whether the announced dismissals were official or not.
Inês Sousa Real noted that in the past there have been cases of people who started by resigning and then left the PAN and joined other parties. “damage to the party and the causes it represents”.
“My strong commitment is to honor the trust of the more than 72% of Congress members who elected this leadership, to advance the party’s interests and concerns about people, animals and nature, and to restore the parliamentary group on March 10 “he added.
