Carneiro says the Portuguese are strengthening confidence in his project every day

PS leadership candidate José Luís Carneiro opined on Thursday that the Portuguese are strengthening confidence in his candidacy, “collecting more votes for the great political and social center” and now also further to the left.

“Today another poll has just been released showing that our project remains the one that will seek more votes from the great political and social center, just as we are now also the one that will seek more votes from the left: from the PCP and the block from the left”he claimed.

Entering a meeting with activists, which took place this evening in the city of Coimbra, the candidate for the PS leadership made a point of thanking the Portuguese who “strengthen confidence with every passing day” in his project.

According to him, this is “a sign of great confidence”, which requires a great responsibility towards all those who have “so much hope” in his candidacy.

“It is an additional responsibility for our candidacy, because today we must be aware that when we present proposals for the Socialist Party, they will also be proposals to serve Portugal and our country.”he emphasized.

Regarding the statements of PS President Carlos César, who expressed his support for the candidacy of Pedro Nuno Santos and considered him “a distinctive leader and not an appendage”, José Luís Carneiro told journalists only that he sees them ” with all the respect he deserves’. party chairman.”

“He is a militant and a comrade for whom I respect, for whom I have high regard”he added.

Shortly afterwards, the candidate for PS leader presented his motion for about 40 minutes to about 250 activists who filled the hall of the Escola Superior de Educação de Coimbra.

The activists included Justice Minister Catarina Sarmento e Castro; and the former president of the Coimbra City Council, Manuel Machado, who heard José Luís Carneiro call for a mobilization that “must continue until December 15 and 16.”

“I am fully aware that there were people trying to show large-scale support. This candidacy does not have large-scale support: every activist is a voice and a free will who will speak out at the moment of voting.”he said.

Concluding his speech, he left a question that he would like to ask his comrades.

“If the citizens outside tell us that they want this candidacy to serve the country, why should the PS turn its back on the citizens who want to continue walking with us to serve Portugal?”he concluded.

The direct PS elections will take place on December 15 and 16.

In addition to José Luís Carneiro, former Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Pedro Nuno Santos is also in the race for the PS leadership, as is Daniel Adrião, leader of the minority line opposing current Secretary General António Costa.
