Last Friday, PS founder Arons de Carvalho expressed his support for José Luís Carneiro in the internal dispute, believing that “his character and experience in political positions” make him suitable for “the demanding challenges” of the position of general secretary.
“I support José Luís Carneiro because I believe that his character and experience in political positions guarantee his suitability for the demanding challenges that the position of Secretary General of the PS will bring him,” the founder and former Socialist deputy said in a message from support announced by the candidacy of the current Minister of the Interior.
Together with Arons de Carvalho, support for José Luís Carneiro was also announced by another founder of the PS, the writer Liberto Cruz, who joins the already well-known José Leitão, candidate representative and also one of the founders of the PS and JS.
Arons de Carvalho was a journalist, PS deputy to several legislatures and Secretary of State for Social Communications in the governments of António Guterres, as well as a leader of the Socialist Youth.
The elections to succeed António Costa as Secretary General of the PS will take place between December 15 and 16 and will be contested between the current Minister of the Interior, José Luís Carneiro, and the former minister and deputy Pedro Nuno Santos, and the Socialist leader Daniel Adrião. .
