The government is completing the liquidation process of the Berardo Collection Foundation

The liquidation process of the Fundação de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea – Coleção Berardo (FAMC-CB) was concluded with the publication of an order in Diário da República, the Ministry of Culture announced in a statement on Wednesday.

The decision approving the final settlement report is signed by the Minister of Finance, the Minister of Culture and the State Secretary for the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, thus recording the end of the FAMC-CB settlement process.

The Liquidation Commission of the FAMC-CB, in office since April 2023 and chaired by Deputy Attorney General Carlos Sousa Mendes, delivered the final report on December 6, with the final liquidation accounts reported on October 31, 2023, accompanied by the opinion of the Council of Supervision.

According to both the order and the ministry’s statement, the liquidation commission has until Friday to publish an “executive summary of the final liquidation report” on the website of the Fundação Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB).

The extinction of FAMC-CB – the foundation that gave rise 15 years ago to the creation of the Berardo Collection Museum, located in the CCB in Lisbon – was approved by the Council of Ministers in January this year to carry out the transfer of management of the museum space to the CCB Foundation, after the termination of the agreement between the parties by the Ministry of Culture.

The members of the committee were Maria Edite Baptista dos Santos, Inspector of Finance, and Luís Urbano Afonso, art historian and professor at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Lisbon.

The commission’s mandate will remain in effect until January 31, 2024, with the exception of the case of Maria Edite Baptista dos Santos, who will step down from her duties on Friday.
