The Assembly of the Republic will review on January 3 the diplomas on professional orders and metadata vetoed by the President of the Republic, the spokesperson of the leadership conference announced on Wednesday.

“On January 3, we had the agenda set by the PS, but we are going to precede it, as there was consent and consensus for the revision of the veto decrees that came from the President of the Republic,” announced the Socialist Maria da Luz Rosinha . , in statements to journalists in parliament.

Asked about the topics under investigation, the deputy stated that the diplomas on appeal orders vetoed by the Head of State, but also the decree on metadata, which was “failed” by the Constitutional Court on the 4th, are at stake.

Last Tuesday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa vetoed the decree that changed the Statute of the Order of Doctors, after having already vetoed four other decrees regarding the statutes of the orders of engineers, architects, nurses and lawyers .

From January 15, the scheduled date for the dissolution of parliament, the Standing Committee will come into force – a body that operates outside the effective functioning period of parliament – ​​with meetings scheduled for January 24 and February 7.

In the face of a political veto by the President of the Republic (in the case of professional diplomas), the Assembly of the Republic may revise, modify or confirm the decree by a positive vote of the absolute majority of the deputies. in office, that is, 116.

In the event of a veto due to unconstitutionalities issued by the Constitutional Court (in the case of the decree on metadata), and the President of the Republic has returned the diploma to Parliament, deputies may reformulate the decree, deleting the unconstitutionalities, or be confirmed, but in this case a two-thirds majority would otherwise be required.
