Last Saturday, BE’s National Council approved the first names on the party’s lists for the expected parliamentary elections on March 10, including the coordinator, Mariana Mortágua, as number one in Lisbon and Marisa Matias in Porto.
At this meeting, held in a hotel in Lisbonthe first names on the candidate lists have been approved in ten districts of the continent and in the regions of Azores and Madeira, announced the coordinator of the Bloco de Esquerda (ARE). The rest will be voted on in January.
At a press conference, Mariana Mortágua said that BE’s election manifesto will also be approved in January.
The BE coordinator refused to comment on the internal elections in the Socialist Party (PS) to elect the next general secretary of this party and, when asked about future government agreements, stated: “Before we find solutions, we must know what everyone is proposing. “
The BE National Board is the highest body of this party between treaties. According to BE’s statutes, it is up to it, “on the proposal of the district and regional assemblies and the Political Committee, to decide on the first candidate or candidate on the lists for the Assembly of the Republic”, in circles of up to three seats, “and on the first fifth of the candidates” in larger circles.
The statutes provide that “the decision on the remaining composition of these lists is the responsibility of the respective district and regional assemblies”.
