Passos Coelho says Costa resigned “due to indecency and bad appearance”

Former Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho opined on Tuesday that the resignation of António Costa, after the Operation Influencer trial, was due to “indecent and bad character”, and called for a political change in the parliamentary elections on March 10.

“I hope the country knows how to identify serious responsibilities in the current government, which is leaving office, in the situation that the country has reached. Serious enough that the Prime Minister, as far as I can remember, was the only one who felt the need to dismiss him for indecent and bad appearance,” said the former chairman of the PSD.

The former Prime Minister hopes that the “PSD can be prepared” for the times ahead, given that “the country will certainly need a government” that has “a clearly defined direction” and that “can inspire confidence among the people to to reverse extraordinary degradation.” impact on a very significant part of government policy”.

Passos spoke at the entrance to the court, where he will be heard today as a witness in the trial in the EDP case. “I don’t know why I’m getting the call,” he said.

“I am not aware of anything in which my testimony could be relevant,” the former prime minister added.

In addition to Passos Coelhos, former Prime Ministers José Manuel Durão Barroso and José Sócrates will also be heard today in the trial in the EDP case as witnesses at the Lisbon Central Criminal Court.

Unlike Passos Coelho, Durão Barroso preferred not to make statements upon arriving at the court.
