The Liberal leader defended on Thursday that the party is going to the elections alone and not in a coalition, because he has confidence in the ideas he presents and out of “a matter of responsibility”, since “there is a country that is waiting” for IL.
In a speech at a dinner meeting in Lisbon, Rui Rocha did not directly speak about the coalition announced on Thursday by PSD and CDS-PP for the next parliamentary and European elections, but once again explained the reasons why IL decided that will only be present during the March election race.
“We will present our ideas, our candidates, our lists because there is a country waiting for the liberal initiative”he emphasized.
According to the liberal president, “IL has an enormous responsibility,” he will say “gift to this country that is waiting for liberal solutions”.
Liberals will stand alone in the elections ‘with the confidence’ they have in their ideas.
“But it is first and foremost a matter of responsibility, because it is not just me, we are not the hundreds who are here today, there are many tens, many hundreds of thousands of Portuguese. I really believe there are millions of Portuguese who want this. liberal country in which we can grow through our work, through our trust in institutions, through our belief that there is a better future for our children”he defended.
Rui Rocha has rejected any coalition from the start, also because “the country is no longer going there with patches” or “with small changes”.
“It is not enough to change the government, it is necessary to change policies, it is necessary to change the country. IL is the only party that has this courage, that has this ambition,” guaranteed.
The presidents of the PSD and CDS-PP, Luís Montenegro and Nuno Melo, will propose to the national bodies of their parties a pre-electoral coalition, the Democratic Alliance, for the parliamentary elections in March and the European elections in June. also include “independent personalities”, it was announced today in a joint statement.
