The Popular Monarchist Party (PPM) issued a statement this Friday clarifying that it had been invited to re-edit the Democratic Alliance (AD) together with the PSD and CDS, but that it had rejected the invitation as it was considered “demeaning” Was considered.
“The conditions proposed to us, and the very short time frame to respond that we were given, were interpreted by us as humiliating for a party that will celebrate 50 years of history next year”indicates the note.
“Between the political fame that integration into the new AD would bring us and the shame of participating in the circumstances described, we have chosen to defend the honor and dignity of our institution”added the party, which was invited on the condition that its candidates would not occupy non-electable seats.
PPM spokesperson Valdemar Almeida even says that the use of the acronym AD by PSD and CDS is not legal and that he will report this to the Constitutional Court.
The presidents of the PSD and CDS-PP, Luís Montenegro and Nuno Melo, will propose to the national bodies of their parties a pre-electoral coalition, the Democratic Alliance, for the parliamentary elections in March and the European elections in June. will also include ‘independent personalities’, it was announced in a joint statement on Thursday.
