“We bow to the courage of parents facing the unspeakable,” government spokesman Olivier Véran said Wednesday from the Elysée Palace after the Council of Ministers. The murder of Lola, a 12-year-old schoolgirl, in Paris on Friday night provoked many reactions.
“Like each of you, we are obviously upset at the horror and at the pain,” continues Olivier Véran.
“This is not the time for political judgment or political overexploitation”
Lola’s parents, received this Tuesday by Emmanuel Macron, “ask that we show ourselves collectively in support of what they are going through, without adding to the pain,” says the government spokesman.
Olivier Véran makes special reference here to the political turning point that this assassination has brought about and calls on politicians to show “dignity” and “respect” in the face of “recoveries”.
“The time has not come for a political trial or political overexploitation as we have seen it do for a few days, it is the wish of the parents,” it is expressed in this way.
The extreme right in particular reacted strongly to the identity of the main suspect in this case, who was born in Algeria and was required to leave French territory.
The government must “improve” the deportation of irregular immigrants
The government spokesman insisted on “respecting the instruction” in this case. “We want answers, we want to punish with the firmness that the atrocities committed require and it is up to justice to do so,” he said on Wednesday.
“We must trust in the justice of our country,” he adds.
Olivier Véran also recognized that the government should “better” in expelling irregular immigrants.
