49.3 on the budget: Marine Pen lambastes a “disrespect for democracy”

The patron saint of RN deputies criticizes a government that “fixes what it considers to be good or bad reforms.”

“Disrespect for democracy.” Guest of Europe 1, the leader of the deputies of the National Association (RN) lashed out at the moment chosen by the executive to remove article 49.3 of the Constitution to approve the 2023 Budget.

“What I find scandalous is not so much [son] use ” […] but to have waited ten days for us to vote on the amendments,” explained Marine Le Pen.

“We tell ourselves that we work for nothing”

Although the government has maintained certain opposition amendments, such as the maintenance of a 5.5% VAT on masks proposed by the socialist Valérie Rabault, it has abandoned others such as the exit tax and the superdividend tax.

This last measure had been presented at the initiative of the MoDem – an ally of the majority – and voted for by the RN, the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes) and… 19 Renaissance deputies against the opinion of the Executive.

“The government has circumvented what it considers to be good or bad amendments,” said Marine Le Pen.

However, “the problem,” according to the former presidential candidate, “is that good or bad amendments are not voted on” but simply “amendments voted by the national representation.” He understands: even if it means prolonging the debates, the government should have kept all the amendments adopted by the opposition.

“We tell ourselves that we work for nothing,” lamented the MP from Pas-de-Calais, criticizing a “deeply undemocratic” approach.

His group intends to present a motion of censure this Thursday. Nupes was ahead of him on Wednesday presenting his. Each must swim in their lane and vote their own disposition without bringing their votes closer to those of the other. There is no risk to the government. In fact, a motion of censure requires the approval of the majority (289 deputies) of the members of the National Assembly.

LR, “passive crutch” of the majority

Even if Nupes and RN voted together, that would not be enough. Only the support of the deputies of the Les Républicains (LR) party would allow the process to go ahead and thus overthrow the government. However, the latter have already indicated that they have no intention of doing so, explaining that they do not wish to “add chaos to chaos”.

“It is climbing a mountain to get Les Républicains (LR) to genuinely oppose the government because they are a form of passive crutch […] Emmanuel Macron’s group in the National Assembly,” Marine Le Pen mocked.

The latter then justified her people’s decision not to vote on the Nupes motion of censure. “We don’t censor the government for the same reasons,” he said. Before criticizing: “I do not vote for a motion of censure from rebellious France that explains that more money is needed for immigration, that less money is needed for the police.” The government can rest easy.
