Lola’s murder: Retailleau wants a law that holds the State civilly liable for “non-assistance”

The head of senators Les Républicains (LR) announced on BFMTV his desire to present “a text of law to hold the State civilly liable when a French person is injured or even killed by a foreigner who has no business on French soil”.

Lola’s murder provokes a race between the National Association (RN), Reconquête and, to a lesser extent, the Les Républicains (LR) party. For several days, the elected officials of these political parties have criticized the fact that the main suspect had a Voluntary Obligation to Leave French Territory (OQTF). A way to put the issue of immigration back on the table.

Bruno Retailleau, also the party’s presidential candidate whose winner will be announced in December, is not far behind. A guest of BFMTV, he indicated that he will present “in the next few hours” “a law text to hold the State civilly liable when a French person is injured or even killed by a foreigner who has nothing to do with French soil.”

“There is a kind of non-assistance to a Frenchman in danger,” said the man who chairs the group of LR senators at the Luxembourg Palace.

“What is unworthy is to do nothing”

The day before, Bruno Retailleau had challenged Élisabeth Borne during the questions to the government in the Senate.

“Do you recognize the failures of the state? What do you say to the French so that these tragedies and tragedies do not happen again?” asked this supporter of a hard right line within the Les Républicains party.

In response, the prime minister had invited him to show “dignity” in the face of the “indescribable pain of a family”, while calling on him not to “use the death of a child for political purposes”.

“What is undignified is to do nothing,” replied the senator from Vendée on BFMTV. And to continue: “If that doesn’t change, there will be another Lola.” Since the murder of her 12-year-old daughter, her parents have pointed out that “above all, they don’t want political recovery.”
