A Monday that made some teeth grind. “Filibusterism”, “opportunism” and the simple pursuit of a “demonization” strategy: the vote this Monday by RN deputies on the motion of censure presented by the leftist alliance may have bothered some.
Far-right elected officials took the Nupes by surprise by adding their voices to theirs in an attempt to topple the government, a decision justified by their boss Marine Le Pen for the executive’s “arrogance”.
The leader of the environmental deputies Cyrielle Chatelain, who defended the Nupes motion against the government before the National Assembly, said that she was not fooled by this “coup” in front of the press. “It’s probably part of her demonization strategy,” that she “is unfortunately driven by those who are constantly sending us back to back,” she said.
Attacks on social networks
Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, like most, set up an “unnatural alliance” of oppositions. And the leftist deputies had to justify this joint vote.
According to the communist Sébastien Jumel, this is on the part of the RN “a political stance”. “At home we tell each one his bread, each one his herring. In the debate, the FN (sic) opposed the restoration of the ISF, in the purchasing power debate, the FN rejected the increase in the Smic. number of issues, it’s not worth spending time showing our differences,” said the elected representative of Seine-Maritime.
“That the RN votes for our motion does not bother me. A motion is not for the beauty of the clouds”, but to overthrow the government, said the president of the Finance Commission, Eric Coquerel (LFI). And without the meeting of the voices of the opposition, this investment is not possible.
“I am glad that RN is obliged to recognize the leadership of Nupes at this institutional moment in which Parliament stands up against the abuse of power by 49.3. LR should do the same”, addressed the rebel Raquel Guarrido on Twitter. LFI MPs had for some time considered voting for the RN motion.
“The right narrowly saved the government. It lacked 50 votes to expel the government. We are ready for the succession,” greeted Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
“Intellectual dishonesty”
The head of the RN group, Marine Le Pen, also took aim at the LRs: “The government can thank Les Républicains, who did not want to vote (the motions). They did not even consider it appropriate to present one. From now on, there is no longer doubt: they are the allies of Emmanuel Macron”.
Elected representatives of the majority have spread the hashtag #RNUPES. And some have scoffed at the “interlocking and embracing” moves. “They are very close to wanting to form a national fusion government,” scoffed Robin Reda (Renaissance). “Populism has only one party, that of hatred and revolt,” Eric Poulliat, from the same political group, launched on the social network.
The environmentalist Benjamín Lucas did not stop replying that “the macronies forget very quickly and with an intellectual dishonesty of a rare magnitude the republican bombardment that led them and returned them to power.”
Three environmentalists did not participate in the vote on the motion, including Jérémie Iordanoff, who “refuses to mix his voice” with those of the extreme right. On the contrary, only one LFI deputy, Jean-Philippe Nilor, voted in favor of the motion of no confidence presented by RN.
