Chega Announces Condemnation Vote to the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic

“As defended by Chega in a similar motion for a resolution, during the current legislature, the conduct of the President of the Assembly of the Republic has proved inadequate in view of his most fundamental duty of impartiality and impartiality, a circumstance deserving of clear and obvious disapproval”, can be read in the voting project that André Ventura’s party announced that it had submitted to the House of Representatives on Friday.

This draft vote is intended to express the “deepest and most serious condemnation of the conduct of the President of the Assembly of the Republic for failing to conduct his institutional conduct with the impartiality and exemption required for the performance of his duties” .

Enough argues that the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic “must get rid of his political and/or ideological origin for the purpose of partisan struggle, and rather guarantee stability, dignity, exemption and impartiality of parliamentary work”, Santos accuses Silva of having acted “on several occasions” in a way “contrary to the principles inherent in his role”.

According to Parliament’s regiment, approved in August 2020, among other things, the draft condemnation votes “refer to the competent committee on the matter for discussion and vote”.

In 2019, before this change of regiment, André Ventura, at the time the sole deputy of Chega, had presented a vote to convict the then President of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues, for the incident of the reprimand for the use of the over-word “shame” and subsequent statements about the episode, a deliberation that was rejected in plenary by all the benches except CDS-PP and the only Liberal Initiative delegate who abstained.

Recently, on October 7, the plenary reaffirmed the position of the Constitutional Affairs Committee that Chega’s censorship of the behavior of the Speaker of Parliament, Augusto Santos Silva, could not be accepted, while the PSD abstained.
