“Cynicism, disorder, it’s you”: the left responds to Emmanuel Macron

The President of the Republic rebuked the Nupes, accusing them in particular of “cynicism” and “disorder”, while denouncing an “alliance” with the extreme right. The left quickly responded by criticizing the head of state’s accusations.

The decibels start again. Several leftist leaders came forward on Wednesday night after Emmanuel Macron’s comments on France 2. The President of the Republic criticized the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), accusing it in particular of “cynicism”. and “disorder”. .

“Your rage unmasks you”

“Cynicism, disorder are you Mr. Macron. His rage unmasks him,” Jean-Luc Mélenchon replied on Twitter.

During his interview, the Head of State targeted the leader of La France insoumise (LFI). In question: the words of the latter after a motion of censure by the Nupes -voted favorably by the National Association- was not adopted last Monday.

“The right narrowly saved the government. It lacked 50 votes to remove the government. We are ready for the succession,” wrote the rebel.

“I heard the triumphalist declarations of Mr Mélenchon”, Emmanuel Macron first indicated on France 2. Before attacking: “But who is this ‘us’? The alliance of deputies – I am thinking of your voters tonight – socialists, environmentalists, communists , LFI with those of the National Group”. And the president accuses the Nupes of having “presented a motion of censure, which has been deliberately changed” to better unite the voices of the RN.

“An insult”

Emmanuel Macron takes up here the accusations that appeared on the left and more particularly among the anti-Nupes socialists. “They tell me in the headphones that LFI eliminated any positive mention of immigration, but present, in the motion of censure on the left to allow the RN to vote for it,” François Kalfon, a socialist and former regional councilor, said on Tuesday. for Ile de France.

His statements were later taken up by the fiercest opponents of the left-wing coalition of the PS, such as Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, former head of the PS, or Hélène Geoffroy, opponent of Olivier Faure at the next congress of the Socialist Party. Several socialist bosses have denied these accusations in the process.

“Obviously this is not the case,” repeated Olivier Faure on Twitter this Wednesday. The head of the Socialists also replied to the President of the Republic, considering that his statements “are an insult to the millions of French people who, like [lui] voted, not for “Emmanuel Macron”, but against the extreme right”, in the second round of the presidential elections last April. Olivier Faure concludes with a return to the sender:

“Cynicism, even in you, must find its limits.”

“Unworthy of His Position”

“It is unworthy of your function, Mr. President, to transmit counterfeits [news]“, also reacted Sandrine Rousseau, an environmentalist deputy from Paris.

“The RN, out of sheer opportunism, voted for a text that was deeply ecological, left-wing and contrary to its program,” stressed its counterpart from the Greens Sandra Regol.

If the extreme right voted for the motion of censure on the left, the Nupes did not go the other way, adding their votes to the RN’s disposal.

In recent days, the Macronists have put the left and the extreme right on the same plane. Nupes responds by reminding the presidential camp of its amendments adopted with the voices of the extreme right -particularly on the purchasing power package- or the election of two RN vice presidents in the National Assembly to which the Renaissance deputies have contributed.

Later in the night, a fact gave pause to the left: the third use of 49.3 by the executive in a week. This time, this article that allows the government to do without the vote of the deputies, was elaborated “on the whole of the project of law of financing of the social security”.

Deputy Eric Coquerel took the opportunity to correlate this decision with Emmanuel Macron’s words about Nupes. “To this authoritarian path, the government will have added ‘cynicism and disorder’ by pretending to debate the PLFSS 2023 all afternoon to await the arrival of Madame Borne shortly before midnight,” declared the rebel.
