Inês Sousa Real announced on Thursday morning that the PAN will generally abstain from voting on the OE2023. The leader unanimously justified the decision by opening a dialogue on the part of the government to discuss measures in the specialty.
According to Inês Sousa Real “this is not a PAN budget”, but, she said, “is making progress that meets our demands”.
“It is essential to ensure that the specialty process gives other political forces, such as the PAN, the opportunity to voice their concerns,” Inês Sousa Real said in statements to journalists from the Assembly of the Republic.
The People-Animals-Nature spokeswoman announced that the party’s National Political Commission “has unanimously decided to abstain from voting in general” in view of the balance sheet of the execution in 2022, but also because of the opening that had been announced by the government to be in the specialty”.
The PAN hopes that next month, until the final global vote, “a dialogue on measures that are of fundamental importance at the moment” will be possible, defending that “the PAN, who has been elected to the Assembly of the Republic, has the responsibility to further its goals, its political program and the concerns of its voters, but also the concerns that are currently plaguing the country and also the youngest, even because of the climate crisis”.
“This is not the PAN budget, it is not a budget that we would bring to the Assembly of the Republic, but still, it is still a budget that is making progress that meets not only our demands, but also the concerns raised by we have indicated over time,” the PAN leader defended.
Inês Sousa Real emphasized the “raising of the IAS” [Indexante dos Apoios Sociais]the increase in the increase in the amount spent on the fight against energy poverty, by an additional 258 million euros, the update of the meal allowance in the civil service, or the implementation of a measure of the Climate Basic Law, which reduces the amount reserved in the energy transition budget “.
As for the measures she would like to see in the 2023 state budget proposal, the PAN’s sole delegate mentioned “zero VAT for the essential basket, the reduction of VAT to 6% for medical-veterinary services and for animal feed, along with an extraordinary line of support for animal protection and the replacement of the figure of public veterinary hospitals”.
“We want to guarantee this winter that people do not get cold in the house and that is why there is an extension of the social energy tariff for gas and electricity to another 400,000 families, i.e. to all people who live below the threshold. also want to make sure that, in terms of access to housing, especially for the youngest, we can raise the ceiling of door 65, we can guarantee that deductions from interest rates and what is overpaid due to inflation have a return on the IRS, or the subsidized credit replacement,” he added.
The PAN spokesperson pointed out that the climate crisis “has not been left behind”, argued that “it is necessary to bet on smooth mobility, on the energy transition” and defended “measures for the forest and combating drought”.
“What the PAN does not and will not do is throw in the towel, is give up the opportunity that the specialty gives us,” he said.
And he left a warning: “If we reach the end of all this dialogue and there are no concrete measures that have been adopted and that make a difference in people’s lives, in the fight against the climate crisis and in animal protection, we will do not have any shame in voting against this budget, if there is no serious dialogue and effective progress in the state budget in the specialty.
The proposed national budget for next year will be voted on by the deputies this afternoon and has guaranteed approval, as the PS has an absolute majority in parliament.
