After the irruption on Thursday morning in its hemicycle of some fifty activists defending the so-called political prisoners, the Assembly of Corsica suspended its session for ten hours before voting a “resolution” calling on the State to negotiate on the situation of these prisoners.
Corsican elected officials began a cycle of meetings with the State in July on the future of the island, including institutional, at the proposal of Interior Minister Gérard Darmanin, after the deadly prison attack on Yvan Colonna, sentenced to life imprisonment. for the assassination of Prefect Claude Erignac.
They demand “political acts”
The text of the resolution, which was adopted unanimously after being presented for validation to the protesters who had joined the stands, indicates in particular that the Corsican Assembly and the executive council “aspire to continue (this) process of dialogue in calm conditions.
But for that they ask the State for “political acts” in order to “create the conditions for the resumption of the ongoing process.”
“Recalling that in the contemporary history of Corsica, political negotiations have always taken into account the issue of prisoners”, they ask that “the process of discussion undertaken between Corsica and the State integrate this issue in all its dimensions – return to freedom , pecuniary sentence, Fijait (file of perpetrators of terrorism crimes: editor’s note), logic of appeasement towards the young people who participated in the demonstrations last spring”.
They want “a meeting on this issue” with the government “as soon as possible, starting in November 2022.”
The irruption of the demonstrators around 11 in the morning in the hemicycle of the Assembly of Corsica in Ajaccio had given rise to shoves and some blows and insults. Then the session of the Corsican Assembly, where more than two-thirds of the elected officials are nationalists, was suspended.
