An RN deputy believes that rescuers at sea are not destined to look for “more migrants”

Alexandra Masson, elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes, explained that the National Maritime Rescue Society should not “become SOS Méditerranée”, an association created to rescue exiles trying to cross the sea.

“Infamous”, “vomit”… The RN deputy Alexandra Masson aroused the indignation of the left on Monday, after having estimated in the chamber that the rescuers at sea were destined to “save lives” and not “forever” . search for more migrants.

“No, the SNSM (National Society for Maritime Rescue, editor’s note) does not intend to become SOS Méditerranée,” explained the elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes, referring to the European civil association for maritime rescue, created in 2015 to rescue exiles trying to cross the sea.

“Its main objective is to save lives at sea and not look for more and more migrants there,” continued the deputy, during a speech on the budget for maritime affairs.

“The pressure of illegal migratory flows is at its peak in the Canal and the Maritime Rescue Society is being diverted from its traditional missions,” he argued. “That’s why I introduced an amendment to increase appropriations allocated to maritime affairs littoral units to relieve volunteer rescuers.”

“An Admission of the Inhumanity of the RN”

“To vomit!”, the rebel deputy Antoine Léaument reacted on Twitter. “That is why he considers that a drowned migrant is not a life to save. No, the extreme right has not changed. His colleague Alma Dufour saw in it “an admission of the inhumanity of the national meeting.”

“Infamous. The RN separates human beings who deserve to be saved and those who do not,” protested the leader of the environmental deputies Cyrielle Chatelain.
