A forceful act to sound the alarm. Guest this Monday, October 21 on Franceinfo, Nicolas Lacroix, president of the republicans of the Haute-Marne departmental council, announced that he wanted to put up for sale, on the Leboncoin site, several administrative buildings, including the prefecture, the courthouse and as well as a dozen gendarmes in his department.
“I wanted to make a strong announcement. Actually, it was to alert the French and reprimand them a little. “I wanted to sound the alarm,” he said.
Towards a default?
The decision was made when the vote on the budget for 2025 begins today in the National Assembly, which foresees a reduction in the deficit of 60 billion euros, the national media also indicate. With this, savings of 5,000 million euros are requested from the communities and, more specifically, 2,200 million from the departments.
“We have more than 20 departments in great difficulty. With these announcements, there are more than 60 departments that, for some, will not be able to complete the 2024 budget and that cannot plan for 2025,” he argues again.
As Nicolas Lacroix explains in Franceinfo, these new economies will have important consequences for the functioning of the affected departments. It mainly cites the financing of municipalities, associations or even investments in the health sector.
“The departments will simply stop paying. “This is unprecedented,” he concludes.
