The Ministry of the Armed Forces explains after the publication of a calendar with a veiled woman

Damien Rieu, a member of the far-right Reconquête party, published a photo of a calendar from, according to him, the Ministry of the Armed Forces and in which we see a veiled woman. The ministry replied that it was a “photomontage”, before changing its mind.

A throwback in a few hours. It all begins with a tweet on Sunday night by Damien Rieu, a former National Rally (RN) who has been a member of Reconquista, Éric Zemmour’s party, since the 2022 presidential elections. The extreme rightist publishes on his Twitter account photos of a calendar that, according to him, comes from the Ministry of the Armed Forces.

A veiled woman appears in it. Damien Rieu accuses the Ministry of the Armed Forces of “promoting the Islamic veil”. Answer: “False. A photograph of the Ministry of the Armed Forces circulates on social networks. This is a photo montage. Be vigilant, do not transmit false information.”

“Civilian Personnel Rating”

For his part, Damien Rieu maintains his statements, arguing that the calendar was “distributed several weeks ago to the staff of the Armed Forces Commissioner”, and highlighting “several sources”.

The Ministry of the Armed Forces deletes his tweet and publishes a new one to clarify that the calendar does exist. However, it is indicated that it is “an initiative of a team from a department of the ministry” and that “in no way is the calendar of the Ministry of the Armed Forces as it has been claimed.”

And to insist:

“This project has never been validated by the hierarchy. Internal product of a service, it has no official value. Since 2020, the Ministry of the Armed Forces has made the decision to no longer produce a calendar in a process of sustainable development.”

However, the ministry is careful to specify “the idea behind this choice of photo”: “to promote locally recruited civilian personnel who make an essential contribution to the missions of our armies on the ground”.

Damien Rieu’s reaction: “‘It’s not us, it’s one of our services’… as usual in France, those responsible are not responsible.”
