La France insoumise prepares for the aftermath of Michel Barnier. While in December there could be a censure of the government by deputies in the framework of the budget vote, the president of the LFI group in the National Assembly, Mathilde Panot, is confident that the Prime Minister “will fall and be defeated”, as he said this Sunday, November 24 on BFMTV.
Afterwards, he believes that “the President of the Republic will only have two options left: appoint Lucie Castets (…) or leave.”
The PFN “has a ready budget”
The Val-de-Marne deputy recalls that the former financial director of the Paris city council remains the candidate of the New Popular Front (NFP) for Matignon and that the left-wing coalition “has a prepared budget”, recalling elsewhere, Parliamentary debates on this issue could last “until the end of January.”
In an interview published this Saturday in Le Parisien, government spokesperson Maud Bregeon affirms that if Parliament does not vote on the budget proposed by the Barnier Government in the coming weeks, France “risks a Greek scenario.” A threat rejected en bloc, therefore, by the rebels and by Mathilde Panot.
To censure the government of Michel Barnier, the left is counting on a probable use by the government of article 49.3 of the Constitution, which allows the adoption of the text without a vote in the National Assembly, because there is currently no majority to vote. about the budget. Michel Barnier declared on November 14 that he will “probably” have to use 49.3 to approve the text.
Will the RN vote for censure?
Not having an absolute majority on its own, the NFP will however need the support of other deputies, for example those of the National Rally, who refuse at this point to censure the government.
On Wednesday, Marine Le Pen said she was seriously considering censure: “We will not accept that the purchasing power of the French is reduced further. It is a red line. If this red line is exceeded, we will vote in favor of censure.” On BFMTV on Monday, Jordan Bardella stated that the decision to vote in favor of censure has not yet been decided within the far-right party, but that the government is “taking the path.”
Despite these statements by Marine Le Pen, Mathilde Panot wants to see “in action what will be done, because we already know that this budget wants to make the French pay.”
The Prime Minister must receive this Monday in Matignon the head of the RN deputies, but also Mathilde Panot and Éric Ciotti, to try to reach an agreement that will allow the budget to be approved.
