Budget: the last “red lines” of the National Assembly after Barnier’s concessions

The National Rally affirms that it will vote in favor of the motion of censure against Michel Barnier if all measures described as “red lines” are not excluded from the finance bill.

“All the boxes need to be checked.” If Michel Barnier were to remove the increase in taxes on electricity from his budget project, this would not be enough for the National Rally to give up voting on a possible motion of censure in the coming days.

“There is a red light that has turned green, but that is not enough,” says far-right deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy on BFMTV this Thursday, November 28. “We ask for other measures.”

The measures in question? The full indexation of pensions from January 1, 2025, the renunciation of any increase in the cost of work or even the renunciation of the reduction of reimbursement for medicines.

“It is unacceptable to deprive pensioners of an indexation that is provided for by law, in the Social Security Code. Retirees have contributed all their lives and have the right to a pension that “is not harmed,” believes Jean-Philippe. Tanguy.

“You have until Monday.”

Michel Barnier also made concessions on state medical aid and reductions in commercial burdens.

While Jean-Philippe Tanguy celebrates the “victory” – like Jordan Bardella – of the abolition of the electricity tax, he says that he “fears” that the gas tax will in turn increase. “If a tax increase that is recovered from others is cancelled, it is useless,” emphasizes the deputy for the Somme.

The National Group also demands “the reestablishment of accounts.” “For several weeks the deficit has decreased,” he says. Before adding: “We estimate that it is still necessary to save.”

If Michel Barnier does not review these “red lines”, Jean-Philippe Tanguy assures: his group will vote on the motion of censure that the left will present in case the Prime Minister resorts to 49.3.

This is confirmed by the leader of the National Rally, Marine Le Pen, in the columns of Le Monde this Thursday. “There are still difficulties. It’s Thursday. He (Michel Barnier) has until Monday,” he declared.
