A third of Ocean Viking passengers will be “relocated” to France

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin clarified the future of some of the Ocean Viking passengers who will be able to dock at the military port of Toulon after Italy refused to accept them.

France will welcome “a third” of the migrants present on the Ocean Viking within the framework of the European solidarity mechanism that provides for the exchange of migrants between France, Italy, Germany and potentially another country of the European Union, announced Gérald Darmanin.

The Interior Minister had just announced that the ship would be received “on an exceptional basis” at the military port of Toulon after Italy’s refusal to let the ship dock.

The ship carries “234 people, including 57 children and about twenty sick people,” the minister explained.

Gérald Darmanin also denounced Italy’s “incomprehensible choice” not to take in the Ocean Viking, which carries 231 immigrants stranded in the Mediterranean on board.
