Guadeloupe: anti-vaccine activists break into the Departmental Council

The demonstrators wanted to “address the socio-sanitary situation of the department” and intend to multiply the protest actions during the Rum Route.

Unionists campaigning against the vaccination obligation and for the reinstatement of suspended hospital staff, announced that they had forcibly entered the hemicycle of the departmental council of Guadeloupe in Basse-Terre on Thursday morning.

“There were a hundred of us to come and discuss the social and health situation in the department,” Gaby Clavier, union member of the UGTG health branch, told Gaby Clavier.

“The vaccination obligation and the suspension of a hundred employees are undermining the continuity of care in Guadeloupe,” he said.

“differentiated treatment”

The protesters also intended to denounce the “differentiated treatment reserved for suspended CHU employees”, because the vaccination obligation “does not apply to other personnel linked to the health crisis such as firefighters, paramedics”, added Gaby Clavier.

According to the trade unionist, a meeting has been agreed on Monday between the members of the collective and the president of the departmental council, Guy Losbar.

These trade unionists campaigning for the reinstatement of suspended carers are intensifying protest actions during the Rum Route. They had affirmed on Tuesday their opposition to this nautical competition in “a context of institutional mistreatment.”

Last Saturday a protest march was held to denounce the lack of investment in the region for Guadeloupeans.
