Emmanuel Macron received this Friday in Paris Iranian women, whose “revolution they are leading” he greeted.

“It is with great honor and pleasure that we receive a delegation of Iranian women,” the French president said at the Paris Peace Forum.

“I want here to really tell you our respect and our admiration in the context of the revolution that you are leading,” he added.

Towards a “clarification of France’s position”

According to Elysée, the delegation was made up of Masih Alinejad, an Iranian activist based in New York who encourages Iranian women to protest against the mandatory wearing of the headscarf, Shima Babaei, who is fighting for information about her father, of whom she has no news. , Ladan Boroumand, co-founder of a Washington-based rights organization, and Roya Piraie.

Emmanuel Macron said in mid-October that France was “standing alongside” the Iranian protesters. Tehran had denounced “interference”.

France Inter radio announced that it will broadcast an interview with President Macron on Monday morning in which he “specifies France’s position.”

At least 304 people killed in protests

A protest movement erupted in Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, on September 16, three days after she was arrested in Tehran by the morality police who accused her of violating the strict dress code. that requires women to wear the veil in public.

Over the days, the women’s freedom protests morphed into a movement directed against the religious regime, which faces a challenge not seen since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

In total, according to the Oslo-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), at least 304 people have been killed in the crackdown on protests across Iran since September 16.
