This Thursday, the Presidency Minister personally took responsibility for recruiting a young 21-year-old consultant to her office and stressed that the 2012 legislation on selection criteria and remuneration has always been strictly adhered to.
During the press conference, at the end of the Council of Ministers, Mariana Vieira da Silva was questioned about a case that caused controversy, especially on social media, related to the compensation granted to a young graduate to perform tasks in her office.
“Since 2012, there has been legislation that says everything about the composition of cabinets [de ministros]: The selection criteria, the payment due to each deputy, secretary or driver, the way the contracts are published and the calendars in which they must take place,” began with a reply to the holder of the Presidency’s portfolio.
According to Mariana Vieira da Silva, “in this case, as in others, these procedures were followed, in relation to a job that has both technical and political dimensions”.
“This is the work of a minister’s cabinet. I will say no more about that today, because this is a briefing from the Council of Ministers and these decisions are mine. They concern me alone and exclusively and not the government as a whole,” he added.
The minister was responding to news on TVI about hiring 21-year-old Tiago Cunha at her office, with a salary of 3,732 euros gross, in what will be her first job.
