Drug traffic: Darmanin announces that 150 magistrates are threatened, a “dozen” under police protection

Before the adoption of the Law on Drug Trafficking in a few days, the Minister of Justice argues that the “dozen of magistrates” are under police protection, attacked in particular by drug traffickers.

A figure to cause an impression. The bill to “get France out of drug trafficking trap” will be discussed in the National Assembly on March 17. And Gérald Darmanin is concerned about the situation of judges who are investigating drug trafficking that has exploited in recent years in France.

“There are 150 magistrates in France, who in one way or another, are directly threatened, in particular by Narcobandits and there are ten who are under police protection when I speak,” said the Seal Guardian on Wednesday at CNEWS-Europe 1.

Two prisons dedicated to drug traffickers

In the pipes for several months, the bill is also accompanied by the opening of the high security prison reserved for the 150 most dangerous drug traffickers on July 31.

The Minister of Justice presented on March 6 that it would be the prison of SELL-LE-VIEIL (Pas-de-Calais) that would welcome drug traffickers in a particularly strict prison of isolation. Another high security establishment will be established in Condé-Sur-Sarthe (ORNE) as of October 15.

Complete excavations are carried out after all contact with the outside, physical visits rooms will be prohibited and will be replaced by hygiaphone exchanges. Access to the phone will be very limited.

“I know what time your children leave school”

The detainees will no longer be extracted from their cell to be heard by the judges, but will now be interviewed by videoconference. Enough to reduce the risk of threats, at least on paper.

“I, I cannot accept that someone in prison tells a magistrate ‘I know what time outside his school children, I know what your husband, your wife, does, and I will kill them if you do not allow me to be released soon,” said Gérald Darmanin.

Last November, 4 people belonging to the world of organized crime were accused and suspected of having foreseen “violent action” against Duai’s attorney general. They were arrested “near their home,” according to politicians.

One of his colleagues Magistra had declared in the process in X that was put under police protection “as other colleagues in this case.”

Police protection that does not depend on Darmanin

In February 2024, a drug dealer was sentenced to 4 years in prison for threatening a magistrate of visioconference with interrogation. During the investigation he had addressed to this drug trafficker, the detailed semi house had been rented by a protagonist of the case.

The magistrate had retired from school to his children before deciding to leave and sell his pavilion while requested police protection.

However, the Ministry of Justice has voice in this area. It is the Ministry of Interior who, after analyzing the DGSI situation, decides whether or not he gives protection to the target magistrate.
