The Senate adopts a resolution so that “no more children sleep outside”

The Senate adopted on Wednesday, a resolution that is not control, asking the Government to gradually transform the supply of hotel nights, to help homeless children.

So “no more children sleep outside”: the Senate adopted this Wednesday, March 19, a proposal for a transparty resolution that asks for an improvement in reception conditions and an increase in accommodation places for homeless children.

Side by 62 senators of all the groups represented in the Senate, and deposited in parallel by deputies Marie-Charlotte Garin (Ecologists) and Lionel Causse (Renaissance) in the National Assembly, this resolution proposal was unanimously adopted in the upper chamber.

Its objective: “Take measures and make sure that concrete solutions are implemented so that we no longer have, in our country, many children who live such unworthy situations,” summarized the communist senator Ian Brossat, who brings the initiative to the Senate at a press conference.

1,728 children on the street at the end of February

The parliamentarians are alarmed in front of the homeless children’s figures: 2,043 children, including 467 under 3 years, “remained without a accommodation solution after their application in 115” on the night of August 19 to 20, according to the “Children’s Barometer on the street” published by the Federation of Solidarity Actors with UNICEF.

A figure that was still at the end of February in 1,728 children, according to Béatrice Lefrançois, general secretary of UNICEF France, who praised “the essential and greater scope” of this resolution “for its transparent character.”

Non -Contract, the resolution proposal requires, among other things, the Government to act for the “qualitative transformation of the accommodation park” and the “progressive transformation of hotel nights” by adapting it specifically to the needs of families.

He begs him “the continuity of the care of each child between the departments and the State”, and asks the Executive to “strengthen the capacity of the accommodation park so that there are no children who sleep in the street.”

Cosignario, the centrist Nadia Sologouub, meanwhile, insisted on the budget support that will be provided to the assistance associations to homeless. “It is absolutely necessary to ensure its operation, if not, when it is too late, we will have absolutely anything to offer to replace them,” he warned.
