“A small ideological victory of the National Grouping”. This is how Marine Le Pen described in France Inter this Tuesday the orientation and programming law of the Ministry of the Interior (Lopmi) whose Gérald Darmanin opened the exam this Monday.
This text provides in particular for the creation of 8,500 police and gendarmerie posts, the expansion of the scope of offenses that may be subject to fixed fines or the digital modernization of services.
The leader of the deputies of the National Association (RN) in the National Assembly judged that the Minister of the Interior “agrees” with the party to the flame on “a certain number of essential issues.” And evoke as such, “the link between immigration and crime.”
“Refusing to see it would be denying reality”
Asked about the existence of such a correlation in an interview in figaro last August, Gérald Darmanin said:
“We are neither in the general naiveté of the extreme left, nor in the absolute caricature of the extreme right. We don’t judge foreigners by what they are, but by what they do. If you want to join the Republic, you are welcome. If you don’t respect our values and our laws, you must leave. Today, foreigners represent 7% of the French population and commit 19% of criminal acts. To refuse to see it would be to deny what is real.”
On France Inter, Marine Le Pen also mocked Emmanuel Macron’s position on the issue.
He “refuses to make the connection, but he does it by saying he doesn’t want to, it’s always the ‘at the same time,’” the three-time presidential candidate declared.
“I will never establish an existential link between immigration and insecurity,” Emmanuel Macron declared on France 2 on October 26. At the same time, he stresses that “when we analyze crime in Paris, half of the events come from foreigners in an irregular situation or waiting”.
