Bruno Retailleau, candidate for the presidency of the Republicans, said Thursday that he did not want to “argue” about the proposal, “at first sight confused”, made by his rival, Laurent Wauquiez, to send to the “dangerous foreigners” under the obligation to leave the territory (OQTF) to Saint-Pierre-Et-Miquelon.
“I do not want to add it. I have committed myself, when I declared my candidacy, not to argue with a competitor of my political family,” said Interior Minister, during a press conference, place Beauvau, about the results of his six months in office.
A “confusing” proposal
“So I am not controversial, no more now than tomorrow about this question, this proposal that is confused at first sight,” he added. “But everyone has the right in democracy to express themselves and propose,” he concluded.
Laurent Wauquiez, who proposed to “lock” in Saint-Pierre-Et-Miquelon, dangerous people under the obligation to abandon the territory (OQTF) causing a fuss within the political class, reacted in X to his rival to the presidency of the Republicans.
“What confuses Bruno is the inability of France, minister after minister, to solve the problem of the OQTF and the fact of passively accepting that foreign criminals are released in our streets,” he wrote on the social network, proposing to the Interior Minister to “work together” to find solutions.
When asked during his press conference about the assumption of a deviation from Beauvau if he was appointed president of the LR of May of the LR, Bruno Retailleau dismissed him: “No, I suppose to be a candidate and minister. I can assume tomorrow to be president of a party and be Minister of the Interior,” he replied.
“This is not what constitutes me a stop. What would constitute a stop is the impossibility of acting or other elements, but we are not there,” he added.
