Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said he wanted on Sunday, April 13 in LCI, to establish the right to “search for mobile phones” of people in an irregular situation.
The European Commission took place on March 11 “a return agreement (…) that will provide criminalization, the penalty of the irregular stay that becomes a crime,” the Interior Minister recalled.
“Now we will negotiate the legislative text of the commission that is on the table, I want there to be the possibility of searching on the phones, because the phones, this is what allows us to see where the National, the clandestine or abroad comes from in an irregular stay,” he said.
Regarding the acquisition of French nationality, Bruno Retailleau hoped that, throughout the French territory, “a young person, born of foreign parents, does not become automatically French for its majority, but that there is a statement, whether it is a voluntary act” by the applicant.
The “favorable” minister to hardening “of the Land Law”
Becoming French “is a serious act” and “worth it”, “you have to love France,” insisted the minister, also “favorable” to the hardening “of the land law” throughout the territory.
The debate on the naturalization procedures was relaunched at the beginning of the year, showing a certain divergence within the government.
Currently, the Land Law allows to attribute French nationality from 13 years to a child born in France of foreign parents, provided they have resided in the country for at least five years.
Later, the prime minister announced the organization of a debate on “What Is French”, whose organization was entrusted to the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (EESC).
