Before the government announcement of an effort of 40 billion euros for the 2026 budget, the first secretary of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, again agitates the threat of censorship.
On Sunday, the Minister of Finance, Éric Lombard, announced an effort “of 40 billion euros” next year, in “essentially” savings form, to reduce the public deficit by 5.4% of GDP – Objective 2025 – to 4.6% in 2026.
“I want to know where we have these 40 billion,” said Olivier Faure at BFMTV this Monday, April 14. “If they tell us that the 40 billion are fraud money: very well” and “if they tell us, for example (…), the pharmaceutical industries take too much in the drugs they put on sale, they say that this is also saved that we can achieve,” he added.
On the other hand, “if you are at school, if you are in retirees, if you are in public services”, the answer will be “censorship,” warned the head of the PS. The government’s coalition that has only a majority related to the National Assembly, the Government faces the risk of vote of a motion of censure, which withdrew that of Michel Barnier in December.

On Tuesday, François Bayrou will bring together a conference on public finance with parliamentarians, social security organizations or local communities. The conference will be used “both to say where we are and where we want to go. Then, three and a half months ago, to develop, advance, to decisions,” the Prime Minister told the Parisian newspaper.
Olivier Faure warned Monday that socialist deputies will closely analyze these arbitrations. “They must understand that if they persist in explaining that no, we will not touch the rich heritage, that we will never touch the great fortunes, that we will make everything come out of the middle class and the popular classes, the answer is immediate: yes, there will be censorship,” he said.
Other movements have censors the carpet after government ads. The national rally said it was favorable to savings, but refuses to point to “the French.” “If the project is to ask the French to press their belts without the State being in the path of economies in terms of immigration, the lifestyle of the State, the communities, we will use ourselves to censor it,” warned his vice president Sébastien Chenu.
If LFI is “ready” to deposit a new motion of censure “in the next few days,” according to its coordinator Manuel Bompard, the movement will only do so with “the guarantee that at least the deputies of the left vote it.” In his sight, the socialists who had refused to vote censorship in the 2025 budget project and, therefore, allowed François Bayrou to stay. In the configuration of the National Assembly, you can only adopt a motion of censure if part of the socialists vote with the rest of the left and the RN.
