National Assembly: RN will not supervise the fight against anti-Semitism and AIDS

The deputies of Marine Le Pen will not take the head of the study groups dedicated to the fight against anti-Semitism or seropositivity. The presidential majority will continue to preside over them.

The National Rally failed to win. Marine Le Pen’s group, which had unleashed controversy by positioning itself to regain the presidency of the study groups on anti-Semitism and AIDS, until now led by the presidential majority, will not finally take the lead.

The decision fell this Wednesday during a meeting of the members of the Palais-Bourbon office. Faced with criticism, Sébastien Chenu, the vice president of the National Assembly, had to drop ballast.

A notability opportunity for the RN

“All the groups were very eager to complete these presidencies. It is done without controversy and in a balance that satisfies everyone”, advances the elected representative of the North to BFMTV.com.

He had been commissioned by Yaël Braun-Pivet, president of the National Assembly, last September to work in these bodies for the new term. These study groups are cross-partisan structures, “irreplaceable places for discussion and exchange” that allow deputies to “deeper and follow specific issues”, in particular ensuring “legal and technical surveillance”, sums up the Palacio-Borbón.

“out of the question”

Marine Le Pen’s elected officials used the opportunity to position themselves as a priority in the presidency of the group to fight anti-Semitism and AIDS, two very strong symbols for the party that has been trying to gain notoriety since its strong return to the Assembly. National. with 89 deputies last June.

But the political pressure was too strong, after strong criticism from the left but also from the presidential majority.

“It is out of the question for the RN to recover the study group”, had rebuked the current president of the group for the fight against anti-Semitism, Sylvain Maillard, in the columns of the JDD last Wednesday.

At issue in particular: the history of the movement. Jean-Marie Le Pen, the co-founder of the FN/RN, was for example convicted of “incitement to hatred”, “crime against humanity dispute” or even “racial public insult”.

The RN will chair Defense Industries

On the political organization side, however, we defended the will to preside over this study group.

“The RN chose the study group on anti-Semitism because anti-Semitism is increasing in our country, which is pushed by Islamist fundamentalism, because the facts are serious,” Marine Le Pen had advanced to France inter on Tuesday.

It was Renaissance that ultimately took over the leadership of the anti-Semitism and AIDS think tank on the grounds that outgoing presidents have priority to extend their mandate. The RN will, however, preside over several such as the economy, security and digital sovereignty, the Francophonie or even the defense industries.

An unlikely co-chairmanship with Renaissance

“The 89 deputies of Marine Le Pen have the right to have presidencies and we must not give exacerbated importance to their influence either,” explains the entourage of Sylvain Maillard, interim president of the Renaissance group.

The RN will also co-chair several study groups with a presidential majority such as the fight against cancer with the Modem or even medical deserts with Horizons.

The only unknown: the study group of the vine, wine and oenology. Sébastien Chenu, who wants his party to chair this powerful study group – it had almost 20% of the deputies during the last legislature – has offered Renaissance a co-chairmanship.

“This study group is important to us but I don’t want a co-chair with the RN,” Sylvain Maillard told BFMTV. The proposal will be presented at a group meeting next Tuesday with a good chance of being rejected.
