Climate: Republicans in the Assembly want better control of France’s commitments

This request for the creation of a fact-finding mission was made by the eight LR members of the Assembly’s sustainable development committee.

The group Les Républicains (LR) requested this Wednesday the creation of an information mission to the Assembly with a view to setting up an observatory to monitor France’s climate objectives, which are not sufficiently controlled according to these deputies.

This request was made by the eight LR members of the Assembly’s sustainable development committee to its president, Jean-Marc Zulesi (Renaissance).

“In the absence of control tools made available to the Assembly, aware of the increasing expectations of our fellow citizens in climate matters, we propose the creation of an information mission aimed at establishing an observatory to monitor France’s climate objectives ” , announce these deputies, including Pierre Vatin, elected from the Oise, and Antoine Vermorel-Marques (Loire).

“Parliament cannot ignore the weather”

“If ambitious targets have to be set, once the law is passed, Parliament cannot ignore the weather. The role of the deputies must undoubtedly be to control the government on the objectives that it sets”, explain these elected deputies, a party considered until now with little presence in the climate debate.

“The right must clearly put the ecological transition at the center of its project”, also believes the MEP LR Agnès Evren in a column published by The world.

“Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, favoring a global approach, reconciling ecological ambition and economic pragmatism will have to be at the center of the ideas of the future Republican presidency,” after the election to lead the party in December, according to her. .

This initiative by the LR deputies comes after the publication on social networks on Sunday of a video in which Emmanuel Macron believes that the condemnation of the State for climate inaction was “not for (his) apple” but for the period 2015-2018 .
