Therefore, it is along the way to a citizen convention that brings together French that the President of the Republic has chosen to approve to review the “child’s time”, that is, vacations and school hours. “It seems to me that we are working to ensure that the organization of our students’ days is more favorable for their development and learning, which there is also a balance to facilitate the lives of families,” said the President of the Republic to Parisine this Friday, May 2.
This citizen convention, which will address the issue of the number of weeks of vacation, will be launched in June. However, these subjects have returned to Emmanuel Macron for several years. Without the words giving rise to real acts at the pace.
Avoid “that we fill the weeks of our children”
In June 2023, during a trip to a school in Marseille, the Head of State said it was necessary to “reopen a debate, which is school time in the year” and shortened the duration of summer holidays. “When you have a three -month holiday, inequality returns” and “we destroy in a way of collective learning,” he launched the president, evoking a “great French hypocrisy.”
For Emmanuel Macron, it was then a matter of “rethinking with the teachers this time during the year” with a goal in mind: avoid “that we are filling the weeks of our children” and that “they arrive punctuated every night.”
Two months later, in an interview with The Point, the head of state added a layer, he already judged that there were “too many vacations.” Therefore, he begged that the beginning of the school year will take place “since August 20” for students in difficulty.
“The students who will have evaluated, and who need them, we must be able to bring them back on August 20 to allow them to make a rhythm, and we must recover the month of June for students who do not spend any event at the end of the year,” he explained to The Weekly.
“It must be a bit discussed”
Since the beginning of the year, the duration of the holidays and the school hours have been delivered again to the upper part of the files. First by the Minister of Education, Elisabeth, who relaunched the idea of a summer license reduction in an interview with El Parisian.
The President of the Republic followed him a few weeks later, during a trip to Alsacia. Responding to a schoolboy who arrests him on the question, Emmanuel Macron said he wanted to “reopen (…) the question of school time.”
“There are many countries that only go on vacation from July 14. We have a vacation that are very, very long in summer,” he said. “Children’s time is something we will open, but it must be a bit discussed.” Therefore, it will be done from next month. It remains to be seen if the final recommendations of the Citizen Convention will go in the sense desired by Emmanuel Macron.
