The PCP this Thursday urged that the constitutional revision projects presented by PSD, Chega and IL “whitening fascism and opening the doors wide to the action of its heirs”so the party decided to present its own initiative.
“It is the anti-democratic nature of the PSD, IL and Chega options that justifies the presentation of proposals that deliberately condone fascism and open the doors wide to the action of its heirs”endorsed communist leader João Oliveira at a press conference at party headquarters in Lisbon.
According to the PCP, the right wants to “undermine the Constitution” when it gives in “restriction of freedoms by facilitating the use of the state of exception”as well as the legalization of “leakage of information related to citizens’ communications by intelligence services” or to the “return of ‘recording’ of people and families with the collection of personal information”🇧🇷
‘Even if the PS enjoys’ the process of constitutional revision “to inflate differences and divergences” with the right, the recognition of the process initiated by Chega is “in itself revealing a convergence” with the PSD, Chega and IL.
The mere announcement that the PS is going to play with its own project revealed a “base of understanding” between socialists and social democrats for the “mutilation and undermining of the Constitution”, João Oliveira completed.
The former parliamentary leader of the PCP, who left parliament at the end of the previous legislature because he was not re-elected by the constituency of Évora, added that the constitutional revision project that the PCP will present aims at “defend the values of April and deepen the project for the future that the Constitution brings”🇧🇷
All other projects, the former deputy continued, strive for this “imposition of misfortunes and liquidation of freedoms and rights”🇧🇷
The PCP wants to enshrine in the constitution a minimum subsistence for all citizens and determine the valuation “in real terms” of the national minimum wage, and also proposes a gradual reduction of working time, “without loss of rights”.
In the constitutional revision project presented by the PCP, which was submitted to the Assembly of the Republic last Friday, the communists defend the “constitutionalization of a minimum subsistence for all citizens”.
Without specifying values, the PCP therefore proposes an amendment to Article 63 of the Constitution, on “Social Security and Solidarity”, introducing a new number to provide that “the law guarantees all citizens a minimum income guarantees”.
In a document which the Communists claim aims to “improve and perfect the Constitution”, the PCP also proposes an update to Number 2 of Article 59 of the Constitution, which would provide “determining, updating and valuing in real terms the National Minimum Wage (SMN)”unlike the current article, which does not mention the valuation of the SMN.
Similarly, in Article 63 of the Constitution, the PCP proposes to include a new number, which would stipulate that “pensions and reforms must be regularly updated and valued in real terms”.
