Brazil’s President-elect Lula da Silva said this Friday that he had come to Portugal to “learn” with the “success” of the Prime Minister and President of the Portuguese Republic, praising Marcelo’s “political smarts” and political achievements from costa.
Speaking at a joint press conference with the Portuguese Prime Minister in São Bento, Lisbon, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said he had come to Portugal to “learn from the President’s political acumen [da República] Marcelo” and with Antonio Costa.
“I came to learn from the Prime Minister, António Costa, because they came up with a ‘device’ that, as far as we know, won the elections. Then it fixed the Portuguese economy. Then I saw the news that he was going to lose, which And what happened was that he won alone and got the majority,” praised Lula da Silva, with the Portuguese prime minister at his side.
“So I also came here to learn about the success of these two – the president, the prime minister – to see if we can do the same thing in Brazil and make it work,” he stated.
Lula da Silva arrived at the prime minister’s official residence at 8 p.m., accompanied by his wife Janja, while the leader of the Portuguese government and his wife, Fernanda Tadeu, waited for him.
In addition to the meeting – which lasted more than an hour – and statements to journalists, Lula da Silva and António Costa will also have dinner in São Bento.
Brazil’s president-elect is visiting Portugal after attending the 27th UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has already served two terms as Brazil’s president between 2003 and 2011, was re-elected on October 30 in the second round of the Brazilian presidential election, with 50.9% of the vote. Brazilian incumbent, Jair Bolsonaro.
As general secretary of the PS, António Costa expressed his support for Lula da Silva’s candidacy in the Brazilian presidential election.
