The President of the Republic “will present the results of the United Nations Conference on the Ocean and recall the ambition of France for the protection of the oceans,” he announced Tuesday in a press release, France Télévisions, specifying that it will also be highlighted that the “French” law “law.
The night, he lives after 8 pm the newspaper, will be presented by Léa Salamé and Hugo Clément, followed by a documentary on Polynesia. The third United Nations conference on the ocean will take place from June 9 to 13.
An “ocean in an emergency”
Until Sunday, 70 world leaders, including Brazilian president Lula, and thousands of delegates, scientists and representatives of NGOs will converge in Nice, in the coast of one of the most contaminated seas in the world, the Mediterranean, which reached last summer the record temperature of 28.90 ° C.

The conference must lead to the adoption of an “operational action plan” with concrete commitments of the states to protect the oceans, accompanying a negotiated political statement for months and promises to be very agreed.
Among its objectives, France aims to obtain additional ratifications from a 2023 treaty aimed at protecting marine ecosystems in international waters and expanding the coalition of 32 countries in favor of a moratorium in marine mining. Paris also hopes to boost the ratification of the agreements on the fight against illegal and overfishing fishing.
But the main oceanic problems divide the international community. The United States, the world’s first maritime area, should not send a delegation, as well as climatic negotiations.
