Castaner, Muselier, Retailleau: 200 political figures sign a platform to defend bullfighting

Some 200 elected officials and politicians signed a bullfighting platform this Saturday. A way to oppose the bill introduced by LFI to ban it.

Christophe Castaner, Bruno Retailleau, Renaud Muselier… 218 political figures sign a platform, this Saturday in the columns of the Sunday newspaper with the aim of defending bullfighting as a “tradition that expresses our identity, (…) embodies our towns and villages and shines beyond local borders”.

In this text, elected officials and politicians judge that bullfighting should not be prohibited in France, as suggested by the bill presented by the deputy La France Insoumise Aymeric Caron.

“The humiliation of some of our fellow citizens”

Elected officials compare bullfighting to the Landes or Breton festivals or the Dunkirk carnival, believing that these traditions “are the soul of our towns, our coasts, our plains and our valleys.” According to them, “they are the salt of life and found our identity.”

“From the Christmas tree to hunting, from the friendly barbecue to children’s dreams of becoming aviators, we do not want to ban, standardize, erase, erase,” they continue in this text. “This would inevitably lead us to withdraw into oneself, to the desire to separate ourselves. And to add: “banning bullfighting is humiliating some of our fellow citizens”.
