“A drama that bothers us all.” The former Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Gabriel Attal, was invited to react on BFMTV for the death of Mélanie G., education assistant killed in the knife by a minor in Nogent (Haute-Marne). An assault that arouses a strong emotion and is, according to Gabriel Attal, “the sign of increasingly strong, younger and younger violence, and the dysfunction of our society.”
“In recent years, we expect too much to take action,” said the former minister, evoking “obviously (…) a form of collective failure, especially when you have a drama like this that occurs in a school of the Republic.”
“Strengthen our repressive arsenal”
Although the voices are raised in opposition to request new legal provisions to avoid new attacks, Gabriel Attal considered that the idea of installing metal detectors in front of schools was “a good false idea”, evoking the risk of crowds before schools in a context of “terrorist threat.”
The head of the deputies of the Renaissance, however, asked to “strengthen our repressive arsenal.”
The Parliament adopted a bill of Gabriel Attal last month, which especially establishes the justice of minors. Among the emblematic measures are the immediate appearance for the 16 -year -old girls and the investment of the minority excuse that a minor is sanctioned with less severe than an adult. This will become the exception from the age of 16 and will have to be motivated by the judge for cases of recurrence punished with at least five years in prison.
