Antimacronista, Gaullista, former head of LR at the Assembly: Deputy Olivier Marleix died

Deputy Olivier Marleix ended his days this Monday, July 7 at the age of 54. Attached to Eure-Et-Loir, an department in which he had been politically invested since the 1990s, the elected official had also been promoted president of the deputies of the Republicans in full debate on the reform of the pension.

Deputy Lr Olivier Marleix ended his days at the age of 54, this Monday, July 7. For 30 years of political life committed to the right, the elected official will have marked his territory of Eure-Et-Loir as a national political life, especially during the 2023 pension reform.

The announcement of his disappearance aroused a wave of transpartisal taxes, all greeting a “man of conviction”, “passionate” and “always respectful.” An experienced gaullist, Olivier Marleix, was the son of former Secretary of State Alain Marleix.

In Eure-Et-Loir since the 90s

President of the Youth Committee for the candidacy of Édouard Baladur in 1995, gradually made his classes and settled in Eure-Et-Loir as director of Cabinet of Taugourdeau Marcial to the General Council of the Department in 1998.

He will end up sitting there between 2008 and 2014. The year 2008 also marks the beginning of his mandate as mayor of Anet, commune of the department. Already in 2012, he was also chosen deputy of the Second District of Eure-Et-Loir before being re-elected three times.

Parallel to his local mandates, Olivier Marleix distinguished himself by his commitment and “his faithful support” that Nicolas Sarkozy received. Like the former President of the Republic, Olivier Marleix had served as a collaborator in several ministerial companies.

Plins without laughing, this man with high stature and the rant skull, had benefited paradoxically from the defeats of his party to reach important parliamentary responsibilities.

Pension reform as a key file

Between 2022 and 2024, while his party hesitates in the middle of a crisis, Alain Marleix’s son was appointed president of the party in the National Assembly. He had significantly opposed the pension reform and was a fervent opponent of the policy led by Emmanuel Macron, who praised a “experience of experience.”

I had also published a book in 2021 entitled Liquidators and subtitled What macronism inflicts France and how to get out of it.

However, Olivier Marleix had asked his troops to vote for the reform of the 2023 pension, a transgressed instruction at that time by a good number of LR deputies.

Near the former Prime Minister Michel Barnier, Olivier Marleix had supported the candidacy of Bruno Retilleau this spring as the presidency of the Republicans against Laurent Wauquiez, who happened it last year as the presidency of the deputies of LR.

Victoria against the RN in the last legislative elections

During the early legislative elections of 2024, it was found after the first round in unfavorable tank against the candidate of the national concentration Olivier Dubois, winning the second with 57% of the votes.

HAS His return to the Assembly, however, was forced to resign from his place as head of the deputies of LR to Laurent Wauquiez, who had returned to the National Assembly on this occasion.

During the choice of Yaël Braun-Pivet to the presidency of the lower chamber on July 18, 2024, he appeared apparently with a book under the arm The great fear of July 1789 of historian Jean-Clement Martin. “There are all the elements of a moment of instability,” he smiles.

When Michel Barnier’s name began to circulate last September by Matignon, he defended the entry of LR into the government and was also responsible for moderating the enthusiasm of the members of his party that demanded many positions within the Executive “as if we had won the legislative elections.”
