Parcoursup: France Isumise Tables An invoice to eliminate the platform

Rebel deputies hope to finish the orientation system of high school students whose operation seems too unequal. However, the measure has few chances of being successful. The government has promised “developments”, but refuses to return.

Always under the fire of criticism. Seven years after the launch of the Parcoursup platform, France Insoumise announced to the table this Tuesday, July 8, a bill on Tuesday, July 8 to “repeal it” and “Restore a right of access to higher education for all holders of a baccalaureate or an equivalent diploma.”

Run by Jean-Michel Blanquer, the Minister of National Education, Parcoursup is the name of the system responsible for guiding high school students after their terminal. Replaces the admission platform after BAC (APB) that could sometimes select students with a raffle or by order of records.

Criticized by LFI for years

But Parcoursup is accused by some students and policies of accentuating the selection and school pressure, while the selection among the students is carried out in their first and terminal bulletins. Future students can also feel lost in the abundance of the offer offered on the platform. There is no less than 21,000. As for the mode of selection, partly made by algorithms, it is often considered too opaque.

What to push LFI to report Parcoursup since its launch during the first five years of Emmanuel Macron. One of the contemporaries of the Reform, Louis Boyard, then a student unionist, also became a deputy represented in 2022 before being elected in 2024.

The announcement of the deposit of this bill owes nothing to chance, while the deputies will no longer sit in the hemicycle from Friday due to parliamentary holidays. The end of the main admission phase of Parcoursup will take place at the end of the week.

“The France Rebelde group gives all its support to graduates and young people, as well as their families at this time that we know anxiety,” MP LFI Marie Mesmeur said Tuesday during a press point.

For the Government, “a reliable platform”

The bill of the rebels, which should probably be discussed during the parliamentary niche of the party next autumn when the parliamentary agenda has in its hands, however, it has few possibilities of being adopted.

We already know that the government will not support the measure. François Bayrou certainly acknowledged that “questions” could arise around Parcoursup during his general policy speech last January. But the Minister of Higher Education, Philippe Baptiste, closed the door to a possible interrogation of the system.

“It is a reliable platform, which is effective,” said this former president of the National Center for Space Studies.

“But that does not mean that it should not evolve, that it should not move. It must take into account the realities of the territories, integrate the needs or feeling of the students, the families,” said Philippe Baptiste.

A very unlikely suppression

As for the common base that greatly supports Parcoursup, it is difficult to imagine it to vote in favor of the repeal of the guidance platform. The national rally wants to “improve” the tool without disappearing.

This is not the first time that a bill has been submitted to develop parcoursup. In October 2022, the group of communist deputies had deposited a text to “mitigate the inequalities of access to higher education generated” by the platform. It has never been discussed in the hemicycle.

Among the consequences related to the part, we find in particular the explosion of private schools that offers training that does not require passing through the platform. The teaching offered in these establishments, however, raises a question.
