“I will need you in two years, for five years, during ten years.” The small judgment of the President of the Republic for the tenth anniversary of young people with Macron has escaped anyone.
We had to see the slightly deviated mine from Gabriel Attal, who had just announced a few moments before he wanted to “offer a path” to the French and direct his camp “on the way to victory”, clearly showing his presidential ambition. The former prime minister understood the message well, if not the crop: Emmanuel Macron wants to keep his hand in the after 2027 and, therefore, he fed for the first time the idea that he could want to be represented in 2032.
If you put this issue on the table, it is first that he is like the others. “When you have tried it, difficult to do without it … it’s like a drug, decipher a former candidate for the Elysée who has tried luck several times. When you are chopped with the presidential elections, you just think, you never recover,”.
Then Emmanuel Macron undoubtedly nourishes the ambition to achieve what none of his predecessors succeeded in history: return after leaving the Elysée. Nicolas Sarkozy dreamed him but failed.
A deep disconnection of the Head of State
The president of the Republicans rejoined in 2014, was swept in the first round of the primary right in 2016 by François Fillon and Alain Juppé … François Hollande awaits him, but it is very unlikely to achieve it. His age, in particular, gives him a reason to believe it: Emmanuel Macron will only have 54 years in the presidential elections of 2032. At that age, Jacques Chirac, François Mitterrand and Georges Pompidou had not yet accessed the presidential function.
But this also reflects a deep disconnection of the Head of State. He has not even completed his second term of five years in which he already seems to think about the best way to conquer a third. At the risk of giving the feeling of being more concerned about his personal future than about the problems of the daily life of the French, for whom, however, he promises to act “until the last quarter of an hour.”
Disconnect and dare to think that the French will want to select it again in 2032 when it is very unpopular today. A little more than 20% of the good opinions, criticized, even in their camp, for a disastrous solution only one year ago whose consequences continues.
The risk of preventing the appearance of a successor
Finally, this “postcard” of the return is not necessarily good news for your own camp. It reflects the power of discomfort, or at least the interference that Emmanuel Macron will maintain. The Renaissance candidate will live permanently with this shadow.
When feeding the hypothesis of a performance in 2032, the head of state runs the risk of preventing the lasting appearance of a successor, proving the idea that the 2027-2032 mandate would finally be just a parenthesis.
