“We are together, but not only in doctrines, ideology, strategies or tactics at every moment. We are together in what is fundamental, we are brothers. We were, are and will be brothers. May our brotherhood live forever,” proclaimed Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, speaking at the inauguration of the Montebelo Alcobaça Historic Hotel, at a ceremony attended by the President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi.
The head of state also strengthened the “strength of brotherhood” between Portugal and Mozambique. “It’s not about having a community that speaks in common, it’s not about seeing bilateral relations on a political and diplomatic level. It’s about seeing this community of affection, of feelings. I saw in the eyes of President Nyusi what it was like to walk through this monastery [Alcobaça] and of course understand what he meant to us and to you. That brings us together, that is indestructible. That’s the magic of the moment.”
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa took the opportunity to “praise excellence in tourism”.
“Today we celebrate excellence in Portuguese tourism, in Mozambican tourism and in Portuguese and Mozambican tourism, because this is Portugal, but countless Mozambicans have worked here, in the work that we have visited and inaugurated,” he stressed.
According to the president, it is through “the mediation of the group that receives us [Visabeira]that Portugal is “present in top tourism in Mozambique” and “Mozambique is present in top tourism in Portugal”.
The president of the republic said he felt “as a citizen” that his homeland is Mozambique.
“The most important thing about the moment is not so much the cult of the past. The past serves as our example and motivation for the future. We are talking about the future in tourism, the future in innovation and science, in education, in social life and in all economic spheres, but we also live for the essential future in brotherhood between people, between peoples, among their representatives,” he insisted.
Nyusi challenges Portuguese businessmen
The Mozambican head of state took the opportunity to urge the Portuguese to “visit tourist destinations in Mozambique” and “explore investment opportunities”.
Filipe Nyusi, who co-chaired the inauguration with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressed his wish that “the Portuguese remain the first ship” of investment in the tourism sector, defined as a priority, and which has already received Portuguese investment through the Visabeira- group.
The Mozambican President of the Republic left the challenge to the group so that after investing in the hotel in use today in the Monastery of Alcobaça, he returned “to invest alternately” so that a new investment in Mozambique can follow , a country that the Government wants to make “a safe destination”.
Filipe Nyusi spoke at the inauguration ceremony of the Montebelo Alcobaça Historic Hotel, which from today will offer 91 accommodation units in the Monastery of Rachadouro, in the Monastery of Alcobaça, the target of a restoration work signed by the architect Eduardo South Moura.
The hotel represented an investment of 24.5 million euros by the Visabeira Group and is the seventh of the Montebelo Hotels & Resorts chain in Portugal.
Following the Alcobaça unit, the Montebelo Hotels & Resorts chain will inaugurate a new hotel in Chiado, Lisbon, in January 2023. The chain also owns six hotels and tourist resorts in Mozambican territory.
