“We can start corn popcorn”: Can you enjoy a duel Rachida Dati-Michel Barnier in Paris on the left?

In front of a disabled right, for the moment, by the double candidacy of Michel Barnier and Rachida Dati, the left can have a card to play in the 2nd District of Paris, considered ungrateful for it, even if the obstacles are numerous.

In the Sud Radio microphone, the socialist deputy director Arthur Delaport did not hide his enthusiasm this Tuesday, July 29. “We can begin corn popcorn in Paris,” said the elected official of Calvados, visibly very satisfied with the situation in the second district of the capital where a partial legislative election will be held.

If this territory, previously occupied by François Fillon (2012-2017) and that includes the fifth and part of the sexual districts and 7 of Paris, is considered unmissable for the right, Arthur Delaport is revealed in the melodrama that is written within the party of Les Republicins.

“Excellent news”

Because, to date, two leader leaders are in the departure line to replace the deputy of the Renaissance Jean Laussucq, declared inexpensive on July 11 by the Constitutional Council that rejected his campaign accounts: former Prime Minister Michel Barnier, therefore, the Minister of Culture Rachid It was your staff chief.

The first was appointed as an official candidate by the National Inauguration Commission of LR on Monday, while the second did not wait for this decision, declaring a candidate for a candidate “what happened” and accused his colleague of wanting to fulfill his “presidential ambitions.”

“This is excellent news. It is shown, on the one hand, the division of those who claim to govern France and also that there is an opportunity for the left to embody a space for the collection, moderation and positive perspectives in Paris,” said Arthur Delaporte.

“So that the left can prevail, you need a triangular”

The figures for the latest elections suggest a small window for the left. In 2024, the socialist Marino Rosset, candidate of the new Popular Front, won him in the first round with 33.40% of the votes. And with a certain advance in the various candidates on the right and the center, whether Jean Laussucq (23.62%) for the Renaissance, the dissident and chosen Gilles Le Gendre (19.62%), also a former leader of the macronist deputies, or the LR Félicité Herzog (6.72%).

The withdrawal of Gilles Le Gendre, however, qualified, in the second round, had benefited Jean Lussucq: 56.50% of the votes in his favor, 43.50% for Marine Rosset.

“So that the left can prevail, you need a triangular,” translates the socialist senator of Paris Rémi Ferraud. “I am not a fortune teller, but I think that the candidate who arrived third will be retired to the right,” then predicts so close to Anne Hidalgo, far from being sure that Rachida Dati will continue to be a candidate: “She had already retired from François Fillon in 2012 when she had said she would go in the end.”

What candidate? What union?

In addition to the configuration of the second round, other strangers remain for the left. Who will be a candidate? At the moment, nothing is formalized for the Socialist Party, which was entitled to this constituency last year under the alliance of the new Popular Front. In the race in the last three elections, Marine Rosset could pass her turn.

Whether or not it is presented and is the socialist candidate, the PS may not be the only one in the race to the left. The fracture with rebel France, visible for months, is far from being absorbed, as well as the struggle that the two training courses are carried out for the next presidential elections.

In this sense, the party chaired by Olivier Faure leaves doubts about a candidacy in the fifth district of French abroad, also concerned about a partial legislative and reserved in 2024 for the rebels, being considered better located to win.

“The rebels had this district twice, as part of the PFN agreements and after the NFP. Twice, they lost this constituency,” said Pierre Jouvet, general secretary of the PS, with the Parisian.

In the same newspaper, the LFI coordinator, Manuel Bompard, already warned that such a decision would lead to a return of the stick: “If, again, the Socialists do not comply with the PFN agreement, we will no longer consider ourselves in any agreement.”

In other words, the rebels could also present their own impersoners. Not only in Paris, but also in TARN-ET-GARONNE, where the first constituency, also initially reserved for the PS, is also concerned about a partial legislative choice.

In summary, that makes many conditions for the left to hurry to the mouse hole open by the right divisions.
