The Interior Minister expressed his opposition to the Initial Bill of Constitutional Review in Corsica, during the Council of Ministers, this Wednesday, July 30. Bruno Retailleau is remarkably in “disagreement” with the “original version” of the text that does not take into account the modifications proposed by the State Council.
Bruno Retailleau regretted that “the modifications suggested by the State Council” have not been retained “, qualified as” healthy, taking into account the risk of flying forward that this text implies and that, from the point of view of our Republican principles, it would mark a decrease. “
The opinion of the State Council in particular eliminated the notion of “community” Corso, “of a unique bond (from this community) to its land” and rejected an autonomous legislative power to the Corsican community.

Bruno Retailleau expressed his “disagreement” on Wednesday during the Council of Ministers, with the Initial Constitutional Review Law on Corsica not integrating the modifications suggested by the State Council.
“Entering the marble of our Constitution, the historical, cultural and linguistic community has developed a link with its land” suggests the existence of a Corso people, “he continues.

Bruno Retailleau also attacked the “promise” made by “the republique” all “knowing that they cannot sustain it.” He adds: “It is not the correct way to strengthen the bond of trust between citizens and their institutions.”
The draft constitutional review aimed at granting the island “an autonomy in the Republic” was launched in 2022 by Gérald Darmanin, then Minister of the Interior, and this at the request of Emmanuel Macron, to end the violence on the island caused by death in the death of Yvan Colonna.
Emmanuel Macron had promised to present the text to Parliament, as a result of a political agreement concluded in March 2024, if it was validated by the Corsican Assembly, which unanimously adopted it less.
The Council of State council sowed the disorder and President Les Répudicins du Senate, Gérard Larcher, had written to the prime minister to request that the government integrate in the text all the recommendations of the institution.
To be adopted, this constitutional reform must be voted on the same terms by the National Assembly and the Senate, then during their meeting in Congress, by most of the three fifths.
